Join Rev Chris Johnson for his Sermon – Who Are You?
You are a person with an identity. Your identity is a collection of unique characteristics that describe you. Your name, your address, your gender. Your habits, your political affiliation, the way you dress. For practical purposes, your identity describes who you are in your day to day existence. But is that all there is? Are we all merely unique collections of identifiers that describe our particular station in life? The obvious answer is no, we are so much more than that.
Consider that you are not your name and you are not your identity. We all have and use those things, but they are not who we truly are. Peel away the layers of cultural programming and social conditioning and we see that the essence of each person is a divine point of conscious awareness that is here having a human experience. When you come to truly understand this beautiful truth, you will have the foundation for creating whatever life you desire.
Shakespeare summarized our world in one timeless sentence: “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.” Have you considered your role in our great human drama? Are you happy with the role you play, or would you audition for a better role if you could? The truth is that you can play any role you like, and the only limiting factors are your desire and level of awareness.
In this Sermon Rev Chris explores the concept of identity and it’s powerful effect on our lives. A group discussion immediately follows the sermon. All are invited to join the discussion with the gathered congregation.
Special Note: This sermon was originally scheduled for June 16th, but Rev Chris fell sick with food poisoning and was unable to appear. A special thanks to Rev Penny & Rev Bob for their service!
